Excerpt from Paramedic Recert EMS Care | 23-MCIT-F3-4136 | Pediatric Special Healthcare Needs

Standard tools for managing diabetes in children include Insulin Pumps, which provide a modern way to deliver insulin; Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) that track glucose levels in the fluid between cells using a small sensor placed under the skin; and Combined Pump and CGM Systems that integrate both devices for better diabetes management. Insulin pumps are safe for kids of all ages and are great for those who dislike needles. They can be programmed with various rates to fit the child’s insulin needs at different times. CGMs can help families feel more secure by alerting them when glucose levels are too high or too low, reducing worry during the day and night. They also allow caregivers to spot trends and remotely monitor blood glucose levels when children are not home.
