The CDC and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) made rules to protect people from diseases like hepatitis B virus that can be spread through blood. Your EMS system should have the plan to give you shots to protect you. You need to keep track of when you got your shots and write it down. Here are some shots you should get:
- Tetanus-diphtheria boosters (every ten years)
- Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine
- Influenza vaccine (yearly)
- HBV vaccine and, if applicable, hepatitis C screening
- Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine or having chickenpox
- Pertussis (whooping cough) and Staphylococcus aureus
- Other vaccines recommended for disaster response
