Pulse oximetry and capnography are valuable tools in respiratory assessment. Pulse oximetry measures oxygen saturation, with 94-100% considered normal. However, be aware of its limitations in conditions like poor perfusion or carbon monoxide poisoning. Capnography measures end-tidal CO2 (EtCO2), or the amount of carbon dioxide that is blown off, normally 35-45 mmHg. It provides both a numeric value and a waveform. Capnography is useful for confirming proper airway device placement and monitoring ventilation adequacy, but  waveform can indicate issues like bronchospasm or inadequate ventilation which makes it a useful tool in all respiratory calls. While these tools are can be useful, always interpret their readings in conjunction with your physical assessment findings and your communication with the patient.
