Gallbladder emergencies, such as cholecystitis or gallstone colic, typically present with right upper quadrant pain. Patients often report that fatty meals worsen the pain. Nausea and vomiting are common, and fever may be present in cholecystitis.

Assess for signs of infection or perforation, such as fever, tachycardia, or diffuse abdominal pain. Maintain NPO status and manage pain according to your protocols. Allow the patient to find a position of comfort, often sitting up and leaning forward. Prepare for transport, as many gallbladder emergencies require further evaluation and potential surgical intervention.
