The most common body parts injured by fireworks are hands and fingers, head, face, and ears, legs and eyes.

Typical firework injuries include:

  • Thermal burns, which account for most injuries sustained from fireworks. The severity of the burn depends on factors like the type of firework, the duration of exposure, and the distance from the blast.
  • Shrapnel-type injuries occur when fireworks are set off. They are often propelled with significant force and energy, which can result in a ballistic injury. These injuries include: Open wounds, Fractures, and eye injuries, which are a major cause of permanent disability.
