Are You Ready For Your Next Recruit?

Recruitment HQ Training | Speaker Chief Tiger Schmittendorf presents a nationally acclaimed discussion on Recruitment & Retention.  Do you remember when you first came into the fire service? How were you welcomed? On-boarded? Treated? Most importantly, how did it make you feel? Rushing to market for new recruits is not always the best approach to long-term sustainability and growth. In “Are you Ready for Your Next Recruit?” we’ll take a retention-first attitude to evaluate the environment and discuss strategies to get our house in order before inviting someone new into it. The Fire Service:  A Volunteering Opportunity Like None Other

Life in the fire service is a volunteering opportunity like absolutely no other.  In what other setting do we ask for a minimum of a long-term, but preferably a life-long commitment right from the start?  The way we recruit volunteers is the equivalent of asking someone to marry you on the first date.  This somewhat tongue-in-cheek presentation will connect volunteer fire and EMS recruitment and retention strategies, tactics, and methods other organizations use to bring people together toward a joint mission of serving others.

Slips, Trips, and Falls:  Avoiding the Perils of the Volunteer Fire/EMS Retention Cliff

This non-fiction “Retention Cliff” theory uses familiar characters and storylines to illustrate how so many fire and EMS agencies have gone from being flush with volunteers – to flushing their volunteers – while the member pipeline has seemingly run dry.  Most importantly, this conversation ends with a “That’s NOT All Folks!” message of hope, and together, we’ll scheme a cartoon-concocted construction plan for building a rope bridge to the other side of volunteer recruitment and retention success.

The Art of Speed Recruiting:

What would you say if you had just 30 seconds to convince someone why they should join your volunteer fire department?  What would your message be?  Do you have a standard sales pitch that you use for just such occasions?  Can you even say hello in 30 seconds?  This segment outlines the need to know your audience, your product, and your competition and the need to remove the physical and other barriers to success at in-person recruitment opportunities.
