Open Enrollment Day – ECFS 9-April-2022

Hosted by the  Eastern CT Fire School and MissionCIT.  Attend any courses during the day. Morning and Afternoon Sessions with concurrent courses. The courses run from 8a-5p.  There is a one-hour break for lunch from 12noon-1p.

We have five (5) great courses with five (5) well-known instructors – don’t miss this!

Course:  Developing the Mindset of an Offensive Aerial Operator
  • Instructor:  Nick Esposito – is a second-generation firefighter and currently serves as the Captain of the Bridgeport FD Rescue Company and teaches on the regional and national level.
  • Content:  Success or failure on the fire ground for a ladder company is often measured by how well an aerial operator initially positions the apparatus. Ladder truck placement at an emergency scene is often the “make or break” moment for any operator.
  • Length:  3 hours
Course:  Hoarding Fires | “Tenable to untenable”
  • Instructor:  Pete Morotto – currently serves as a Captain for the City of Bridgeport, CT fire department. He has been in the fire service for 25 years and teaches on the regional and national levels.
  • Content:  Success or failure on the fire ground for a ladder company is often measured by how well an aerial operator initially positions the apparatus. Ladder truck placement at an emergency scene is often the “make or break” moment for any operator.
  • Length:  2 hours
Course:  The “Hot Seat”– Initial Operational decision making from an Officer’s Perspective.
  • Instructor:  Mark Waters – Mark is a Battalion Chief for the City of New London CT Fire Department and a Program Planner with the Connecticut Fire Academy.
  • Content:  This course will focus on the decision-making process that an officer goes through when responding to, sizing up, and employing Strategy and Tactics to effectively mitigate an incident.
  • Length:  2 hours
Course:  Recruiting for the Long Term: Public Service Motivation and Why It’s Necessary.
  • Instructor:  Jason Decremer, Phd – Recruitment & Retention Chair, Southbury Volunteer Fire Department; Testing & Strategy Practice, Mission CIT, LLC.
  • Content:  This course is a dynamic discussion on using non-traditional R&R methods to maximize membership in volunteer fire departments.
  • Length:  3 hours
Course:  Recruitment for Beginners.
  • Instructor:  Nick Wallick – Retired Fire Chief, Hebron Fire Department; President, Eastern Connecticut Fire School
  • Content:  This course will address the best methods and strategies when beginning a recruitment program in your department.
  • Length:  2 hours
